Sebastian Rug
Drawings - November 10 until December 08, 2018

"Drawing for me is a way of deepening into the details of a drawing - from the beginning and through all phases of its transformation.

During the production of the drawing, it is important to keep both the micro-plane of the texture and the gradually developing structure on the macro-plane in view and in constant agreement. Only from such interaction do the forms grow out of the material of the graphic material." (Sebastian Rug)

If you want to see and experience Rug's DIN A4 drawings, you have to get close. It is only when you look closely into the drawings that the laws according to which Rug organises his pencil strokes, most of which are one to two millimetres long, become apparent. They vary from leaf to leaf and sometimes also vary within one and the same leaf.

The exact observation takes time, one is inclined to assume that one needs just as much attention for the observation as the draughtsman has spent for his drawing.

Sebastian Rug was born in 1974 in Vacha, he lives and works in Leipzig. His drawings and etchings are part of important German museum collections such as the Kupferstichkabinett Berlin, the Staatliche Kunstsammlung Dresden, the Museum Folkwang, Essen, the Städel Museum, Frankfurt, the Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern and the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung Munich.

Most recently his drawings were exhibited in the exhibition "Auf der ganzen Linie" at the Kunstraum Alexander Bürkle in Freiburg and in the exhibition "Spatial Flux" at the Gregory Allicar Museum of Art in Colorado (USA).
