Kicking off with the ORLO, that extreme limit, or outline, of my pattern/figure/form, the subject of that Summers work has shifted between the ORLO to the GRID and back again. But the ORLO has been the most dominant form, showing, if not proving, that length, width, and quality of line are enough to describe the entire subject.

We are happy to announce the second gallery exhibition by Linda Karshan.
The exhibition august form 2005 of Linda Karshan (born 1947 Minneapolis, Minnesota), who lives and works in London(UK) and Connecticut (USA), shows a selection of drawings of the early nineties together with recent works from this summer.

Linda Karshan counts and draws. A big stack of paper is laying in front of her, mostly in the format 76x57cm. She holds the graphite like Japanese Calligraphers in her right fist. While counting rhythmically in numerical sequences she draws. At the end of the numerical sequence she turns the sheet about 90 degrees and keeps on drawing. Following the same ritual she creates countless sheets in a way of a counting- meditation, totally released from the creative will of the artist.

Grid-like structures often grow, they save the vividness of the line and at the same time the gesture of sheet and hand. In her latest works Linda Karshan continues her exploration of the sheetspace consistently. With big certainty she draws the line along the edge of the sheet and even crosses this boundary. A geometrical pattern is developed as well as marks at the corners, that only indicate where a disassociation from the inside and the outside would be imaginable.

In June this year Linda Karshan continued her work through the medium of the etching. In co-operation with Niels Borch Jenssen a group of dry points were made in his printing house in Copenhagen which can be seen in the exhibition for the first time.
