The four artists in the exhibition belong to the post-war generation. They were born at the end of the 1940s in America, West Germany and East Germany. They decided in favour of art in the 1960s and 1970s and still work in this field today.

Linda Karshan was born in Minneapolis in the USA in 1947. In the 1960s, she studied at Skidmore College, the Walker Art Centre and the Sorbonne in Paris. Heartbeat and breathing rhythms are the basis of her non-representational drawings. Since 2018, WALKED DRAWING, space-surveying performances, have been part of her work.

aja Majer-Wallat was born in Bonn in 1948. From the mid-70s, she studied fine art at the art at the Cologne Werkschule until she graduated as a master student of Eduardo Paolozzi. The exhibition of a multi-part ceramic work at the Artothek in Cologne in 1984 marked the end of her artistic work, which she resumed in 2015 after twenty years as press spokesperson for the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn. Her mobiles from the Balance & System series, which float freely in space, are spatial drawings that depict her interest in human interaction.

Hanns Schimansky was born in Bitterfeld in 1949. He studied as a master student of Gerhard Ketterer at the Academy of Arts of the GDR in Berlin from 1977 to 1980. From 1998 to 2015, he taught as a professor at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee. Initially he drew landscapes, but then decided in favour of abstract drawings. For many years, folding has been another means of expression.

Barbara Camilla Tucholski was born in Loitz in 1947. She studied at the Academy of Art in Düsseldorf from 1970 to 1976. From 1995 to 2013, she taught as a professor at the University of Kiel. Painting and drawing are synonymous with her work. She draws empty spaces and views of urban landscapes. She ignores central perspective and follows the movement of her eyes with a pencil on paper.
