Christiane Löhr
sculpture and drawing - June 23 until July 24, 2004
Among hundreds of video screens, moving images, loud speakers, huge installations of Harald Szeemann`s “ Plateau of Humankind” at the last Venice Biennale, a small yellow tower-like construction made of plant seeds was standing for its beauty and fragility. It looked small and delicate, but at the same time it gave an impression of incredible strength and solidity. It was a work of Christiane Löhr. Since the late `90s this young German artist has been developing extremely original work, using plants or seeds as a material for construction of small scale imaginary architectures, or making large scale interventions in the space, such as constructing high columns (up to 5 meters) with horse hair. With her work she is indicating the fragility and incredible force of nature, reminding us of the importance of our consciousness of earth, its natural resources and the preservation of a relationship with nature in our hyper technological culture.
