Christian Frosch
Malereiforschung - September 02 until September 30, 2017

”… if a sponge, filled with a great range of colours, is thrown against a wall, it leaves traces in which a beautiful landscape can be seen. Such traces contain a diversity of inventions if one is ready to see such things…. “ (Leonardo da Vinci)

For his new group of paper works “LEONARDO” Christian Frosch transforms Leonardo da Vincis idea into an experimental arrangement. He places a sheet of paper onto the studio wall and throws a sponge filled with one or more colours against it. The power of the throw as well as the physical properties of the used materials are influencing the result.

20 years of research on painting. Christian Frosch continues his research. He develops experimental arrangements in which the picture paints itself under precisely defined conditions.

Christian Frosch, born 1968, lives and works in Greifswald (Germany). Since 2016 he is teaching as Professor at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität Greifswald (DE).

His work is part of major private and public collections such as Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen Munich, Museum für konkrete Kunst Ingolstadt, Nomas Foundation, Rom, Collection of Ege Kunst- und Kulturstiftung, State Art Collection of Mecklenburg Vorpommern and German State Collection of Contemporary Art.
