Wonkun Jun
Painted lines - November 13 until December 11, 2021
We are looking forward to the solo exhibition of works by Korean painter and draftsman Wonkun Jun.
Wonkun Jun's paintings are the result of a lengthy painting process. They consist of many layers of watery applied acrylic paints. The edges of the paintings make this process comprehensible.
For the current line paintings, Wonkun Jun has developed a special technique of applying and wiping off the paint. What remains are the finest lines on the surface of the painting. The technique, which he has tested for many years, is very temperature-dependent and requires a great deal of experience. Patiently adapting to the respective current studio situation, line paintings of varying complexity are created. Wonkun Jun often works in series, whose images refer to each other in a finely tuned color palette.
In the most recent drawings, Wonkun Jun draws the finest colored pencil lines next to and on top of each other on sheets primed with many layers of paint. In complete transparency, one sees each individual line and the color surface composed of them.
Wonkun Jun was born in 1970 in South Korea, he lives and works in Düsseldorf. He studied at the Chugye Art Academy in Seoul, at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Braunschweig and at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf. He is a master student of Helmut Federle. His works are regularly exhibited in Germany and South Korea.
