Christiane Löhr
objects and works on paper - November 05 until December 10, 2022

After Christiane Löhr's successful solo presentation at the Drawing Now Art Fair in Paris this spring, we are looking forward to the fifth solo exhibition of drawings and sculptures by Christiane Löhr in Cologne.

"the weight of the line".

Weight in German refers to both "the heaviness of a body, which can be determined by weighing" and the "significance that weighs heavily in relation to other factors and influences the context or circumstance."

In the case of Christiane Löhr's works, the weight of the line lies in the space-changing power of her interventions whether as seemingly weightless sculptures in three-dimensional space or as lines in two-dimensional leaf space.

Christiane Löhr is a sculptor. She makes sculptures from plant parts, seed stalks or horse hair. Her sculptures assert themselves as architectures in space, influence it, change it and in doing so distance themselves far from any natural romantic impression. They demand a change of perspective on the part of the viewers, who also experience their own size anew.

In her works on paper Löhr uses pencil and oil pen or ink. The fine pencil lines (mostly in the small format 27 x 20 cm) traverse the leaf space just as much as the deep black oil pen lines massaged into the leaf ground (some in the large format 153 x 195 cm). They segment it, change the light in it. The flowing ink lines themselves become the space for the pigments deposited in them in very different ways.

Christiane Löhr looks back on a long list of national and international exhibitions. In 2022, her works were shown at the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire (FR) and the House of Art in Budweis (CZE) and in 2021 at the Haus am Waldsee in Berlin.
