Katharina Hinsberg
Schraffen - Recent works - August 27 until September 24, 2022

The gallery is closed till the opening

Opening: Saturday, 27 August, 4 - 7 p.m.

After the summer break, we look forward to discovering with you current and selected earlier works by Katharina Hinsberg, with whom we have been working successfully for twenty years.

Hinsberg explores real space and leaf space in equal measure. She questions the concept of drawing and enriches it with many dimensions. The slow, concentrated cutting, releasing of lines plays just as great a role in her work as the usually fast, gestural, often body-related drawing process. In cutting, exposing or piercing, she opens the sheet into space and questions her own drawing to the point of negating it.

Schraffen.
This is the name Katharina Hinsberg has given to her most recent group of works, which is the focus of the exhibition. These are red coloured pencil lines, expressively drawn by hand on paper, which have been cut out of the white sheet surrounding them. Some of them fill the wall 180 x 275 cm, others are in A4 format and then connected to and held by a white grid cut from the same sheet.

Hinsberg chooses the onomatopoeic titles of her work series carefully and opens up new chains of associations. Hatching is the name given to a graphic means of expression for the representation of terrain in topographical maps. Lacunae are missing parts in the transmission of texts and ajouré refer to the day's work.

Works by Hinsberg are part of national and international collections and have been shown for many years in museums in Germany and abroad. Until recently, works on paper as well as room installations were on display at the Villa Zanders art museum in Bergisch-Gladbach. Visitors to the exhibition will remember the line consisting of more than 900 spheres, which is suspended through several exhibition rooms.
