Ulrich Rückriem
next door - March 11 until April 08, 2006
The first solo exhibition at the new location of the gallery is dedicated to Ulrich Rückriem’ s wall-drawings. The artist has created a group of works reflecting the peculiarities of the gallery space.
The title Next-door takes account of the fact that the artist’s studio (in Cologne) and the Gallery are located in neighbouring buildings.
The splitting, cutting, carving and composing of the stones is preceded by Ulrich Rückriem’s conceptual research at his studio, manifested in drawings, with which he develops his construction and composition plans.
At the same time, he is working on independent drawings, applying graphite on tracing paper, and filling out the surface. For Rückriem these works are minimal scupltures.
Ulrich Rückriem is increasingly interested in the construction of virtual spaces, which he explores laying a series of drawings on tracing paper on top of the other.
After the great exhibition at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin in 2005, Ulrich Rückriem will be showing at the Museum of Modern Art in Oxford and Sprengel Museum in Hanover later this year.
