At the centre of the exhibition are works on paper from the "Daylights" group of works.
Red, grey and - where the unprocessed paper appears - white squares and rectangles, partly crossed by black lines, break through the otherwise black picture surface. They open up the view into a luminous background. Their arrangement testifies to Blohm's simultaneous interest in rules and order as well as disorder and rule-breaking.
The "Daylights" are a further development of the "Mosaic Forms". Works from this group of works, created since 2013, complement the exhibition together with landscape drawings that Blohm has been drawing for over 20 years in the nature surrounding her, on trips to Germany, France or the USA. About her drawing, Blohm says: "That's the wonderful thing about drawing, it's so close to thinking. In my case, the scale is often small and comes directly from the hand, so the thought processes flow directly into the drawing."
Bettina Blohm lives and works in New York and Berlin. For over 10 years, she has alternated every three months between New York, where she paints her mostly large-format pictures, and Berlin, where her works on paper are created.
Works by Bettina Blohm are part of important public collections such as the Berlinische Galerie, the Busch Reisinger Museum, Harvard, the Städel Museum, Frankfurt, the Kunsthalle Bremen, Staatliche Graphische Sammlung Munich. Bettina Blohm's works can currently be seen in the exhibitions "Kein Tag ohne Linie" at the Museum Ritter in Waldenbuch (until 24 April) and "Finale - Director's Cut" at the Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern (until 8 May).
