Malte Spohr
Moments of time - May 13 until June 17, 2023

We are pleased to present a group of small-format drawings by Malte Spohr, created from 2021 until today, complemented by a selection of earlier works in our sixth solo exhibition.

The aspect of seeing something, observing something and translating what is observed into an own, open system has a great fascination for me." (Malte Spohr)

It all begins with moments of true seeing in nature.

Spohr captures them with the help of photography and makes them part of his extensive image archive. Later, they undergo close scrutiny and lengthy processing on the computer screen. The result serves as a preliminary stage, comparable to a sketch for the drawing work. For them, Spohr selects finely coordinated pencils and/or coloured pencils. The only means of translating what is seen and photographed into what is drawn is the horizontal line. The coordination of the lines in tonality, density, proximity and distance to each other, the seemingly effortless play with fullness and emptiness make up the very special charm of Malte Spohr's drawings.

They are an invitation to the viewer to experience moments of true seeing in art.

Malte Spohr was born in Hamburg in 1958 and lives and works in Berlin. We have represented him since 2006 and have been able to inspire many art lovers with his subtle drawings. They have been exhibited in numerous German museums in solo and group exhibitions and are now part of important graphic collections in Germany.
